Department of Environmental Protection
Local wastewater systems are essential infrastructure to protect public health, support water quality, and benefit the communities they serve, but the need for critical infrastructure improvements exceeds the State’s recent funding capacity. These one-time funds will be used in combination with additional federal funds to accelerate the timeline on local wastewater infrastructure projects, which will reduce the future burden on ratepayers while also supporting important construction jobs. A portion of these funds will expand Maine’s Small Community Grant Program, which supports septic repair and replacement projects.
Maine's Department of Environmental Protection solicits applications from municipalities and districts for financing for wastewater infrastructure projects as part of the annual State Municipal Wastewater Grant Program and Clean Water State Revolving Fund application process.
