Details:
- $120 million has been allocated to carry out Title V of the Older Americans Act of 1965. Maine will receive 147,161 for this program.
- This provides part time community employment to individuals who are 55 and over and who have “poor employment prospects”.
- This program is administered through the Office of Elder Services and is then contracted to Goodwill Industries statewide.
- March 10, 2009 was the deadline for the application to Department of Labor for the additional amount. We do not yet know when the funds will be received.
- HHS was briefed by letter on this program on March 10, 2009 and the committee voiced no objections. States have no discretion over how these funds are spent.
- This money will support part-time employment for 12 additional individuals.
- No additional staff will be needed to administer this program.
