Job Description: The Office of the Attorney General has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General within the Health and Human Services Division in Augusta. This position will represent the DHHS Office of Licensing and Certification (DLC), which includes the Background Check Center and the Certificate of Need (CON) Office and will share in the representation of the DHHS Office of Aging and Disability Services in public guardianship matters.

Representation of DLC/CON will include: assisting clients in the drafting of rules and APA legal review of rules; representation of the clients at administrative hearings and also in appellate review of DLC/CON decisions in state court; reviewing and responding to subpoenas served on clients; day-to-day legal advice on such matters as legislation, contracts, and Department policies; and responding to unusual events. Public guardianship matters include representing the Department in probate court, as well as providing day-to-day advice.

Minimum Qualifications
This is not an entry level position. Applicants must be members of the Maine Bar in good standing, have an eye for legal detail, be interested in complex state and federal litigation, have strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team. One to three years of legal practice with demonstrated proficiency in civil litigation and/or health care law and litigation is preferred.

Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%): $392.49 biweekly
*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employees wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
