17th Annual Maine Tax Forum
The 17th annual MTF is scheduled for Wednesday, November 6th and Thursday, November 7th 2013 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Maine Revenue Services is pleased to announce that SCORE Maine, a district of the national organization of volunteers helping small businesses, has agreed to take over as host for the Maine Tax Forum, starting this year. SCORE is committed to delivering the same high-quality program that participants have grown accustomed to in the past, and Maine Revenue Services will continue to support the program by providing subject area experts as speakers.
The forum will cover Maine and federal tax developments, initiatives and case law developments, ethics, new IRS initiatives and other topics of current interest.
Attendance at the Maine Tax Forum will provide CPE and CLE credits. The number of approved credits will be determined once the program agenda is finalized. Adequate seating will again be available by using both the Auditorium and North Wing on the second floor of the Civic Center, with the live presentations projected on screen.
More detail is available on the SCORE web site at www.scoremaine.org (select the “17th Annual Maine Tax Forum”). On August 1st, the brochure with program details and application for registration will be available on the Score web site.
MRS Rulemaking Activity
Repeal and Replace Rule 202, "Tree Growth Tax Law Valuations - 2013." Maine Revenue Services has repealed and replaced Rule 202. This is annual rulemaking. Rule 202, last amended for 2012, fulfills the requirement that each year the State Tax Assessor determine 100% valuations per acre for each forest type by economic region for parcels under the Tree Growth Tax Law. These changes to Rule 202 are effective March 19, 2013.
Rule 202 can be found on the MRS web site at www.maine.gov/revenue (select Laws & Rules).
