BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position provides direct support for the Nonpoint Source Program, which administers federal water quality grants authorized under Sections 319 and 604(b) of the Clean Water Act. Funds are passed through to organizations (usually 8 - 12 per year) working to protect or restore surface waters all over the State of Maine. Typical sub-grant recipients include municipalities and Soil & Water Conservation Districts. This position provides technical assistance to prospective grantees and serves as an Agreement Administrator on grant projects to ensure that work is effective at protecting or restoring water quality and that it meets state and federal guidelines. The position also conducts stream water quality monitoring and habitat assessment, lake watershed surveys and watershed analysis to identify pollution sources and stressors and supports the development and implementation of watershed-based plans. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:
?Knowledge and interest in watershed management and nonpoint source pollution issues.
? Experience working cooperatively with diverse stakeholders, including municipalities, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, local resource stewardship groups and private landowners.
? Strong communication skills, customer service skills, management skills and group leadership abilities.
? Demonstration of strong personal initiative and work ethic.
? Ability to think creatively when identifying and analyzing problems.
? Familiarity with water quality monitoring and Best Management Practices to address NPS pollution.

CONSERVATION AIDE

The Department of Environmental Protection?s Division of Water Quality Management is accepting applications to fill a seasonal position (from approximately (June 19th to August 18th) for Conservation Aide in the Augusta region.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: These Conservation Aides will assist the OBD Inspection Coordinator with inspection of Overboard Discharge treatment systems in Maine. (OBD systems are specialized wastewater treatment systems that treat household or commercial sewage and then discharge the treated effluent to a receiving water body.) Duties include: Use of a State vehicle to travel throughout Maine, mostly coastal areas, to locate facilities utilizing OBD systems; inspection and documentation of systems; meet with/contact owners about their system?s operation; coordinate with service contractors to facilitate repair work; follow up on failed inspections; and data entry/management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and have knowledge or experience in conservation work or a high school diploma or equivalent.

Preference will be given to those with knowledge of biological processes, chemistry, engineering, process equipment maintenance, computer operations and database operations.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This supervisory position engages in professional scientific work to conserve, enhance, and restore freshwater fishery resources in Maine?s Rangeley Lakes region, working as the Regional Fisheries Biologist from the Strong Regional Headquarters. The successful candidate will administer, supervise, and coordinate various regional fishery management program responsibilities including development and evaluation of fish stocking programs and fishing regulations, review and assessment of proposed natural resource alterations, identification and development of water access projects, development and implementation of comprehensive fishery inventory, survey, monitoring, and other biological data collection programs. This position provides technical support to the Department, other state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the public; represents the Department at public meetings; and routinely analyzes fishery data and prepares technical reports.

Preference will be given to those that have strong interpersonal and organizatinal skills as well as hands on experience directly related to freshwater fisheries management such as: * Experience sampling fish populations through a variety of field methods * Experience with habitat restroration/improfement/protection * Experience working with members of the public on freshwater fisheries issues * Experience entering and analyzing fisheries data in SAS/Access/Excel/ArcMap * Experience writing technical reports and popular articles relating to fisheries

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Fisheries Management, or related field -AND- three (3) years experience in laboratory or field research of fish and wildlife including experience in a supervisory capacity.
