About Rep. Gideon
Rep. Sara Gideon is serving her first term in the Maine House of Representatives. She is a member of the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology, where she hopes to lower energy costs, encourage increased energy efficiency and promote clean and renewable energy to capitalize on our natural resources and build a clean-energy economy.
Rep. Gideon’s commitment to public and volunteer service at the local community level has given her an appreciation for how decisions made in Augusta affect people and businesses in Maine. Rep. Gideon was elected to the Freeport Town Council, where she also served as vice chairwoman. She has been an active classroom volunteer in the RSU 5 schools, has served on the board of Freeport Community Services and on the board of the Freeport Economic Development Corporation.
Rep. Gideon graduated from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she also worked as an intern for U.S. Senator Claiborne Pell, Democrat of Rhode Island. She spent most of her career as an advertising account executive for a nationally renowned newspaper, where she was awarded the president’s award for excellence in sales.
Rep. Gideon lives in Freeport with her husband, Ben, and their three children, Julian, Alek and Josie.
