Governor LePage Proclaims December 3, 2018 Organ Donor Awareness Day

December 3, 2018

WHEREAS, nearly 124,000 men, women and children were on the organ transplant waiting list as of November 2015; and

WHEREAS, donation and transplantation save lives, but the need for organs far exceeds the number donated; and

WHEREAS, in Maine, 98 men, women and children are on the waiting list for kidney and pancreas transplants as of November 23, 2012; and

WHEREAS, in New England, more than 4,800 men, women and children were on the organ transplant waiting list as of November 23, 2012; and

WHEREAS, more than 44,000 blood donors are needed each day in our nation, and thousands of Americans need corneal, other tissue transplants and marrow; and

WHEREAS, those who donate organs, tissue, marrow and blood are life savers and life enhancers who share gifts beyond measure.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL R. LEPAGE, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim December 3, 2018 as the ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS DAY throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.
