Governor LePage Proclaims November 1-7, 2018 Cancer Awareness Week

WHEREAS, Cancer continues to be one of the biggest killers in the State of Maine and the United States; and
WHEREAS, While cancer deaths have been decreasing since the mid-90's, the rate of the decline accelerated from 2002-2009; and
WHEREAS, Experts say that the drop in cancer deaths is due in large part to preventive measures, living healthier lifestyles and more effective treatments; and
WHEREAS, Cancer risk factors include food and fitness, tobacco products, sun safety and living a healthy life; and
WHEREAS, Promoting awareness of the factors that could prevent cancer could potentially lead to a healthier style of living for people throughout the State of Maine.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL R. LEPAGE, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim November 1-7, 2018 as CANCER AWARENESS WEEK throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.
