Maine Community Literacy Project

The Maine Reads Task Force is pleased to announce a state-wide, community-based Literacy Project.

The Vision of the project:

  • To view Maine as a state of life-long learners. A place where every child, every family, and every community is strengthened through libraries and literacy programs that encourage reading.

The Goal of the project:

  • To strengthen communities, families, and children through reading, literacy programs, and libraries.

The Objectives are:

  • To use community libraries as literacy centers that provide literacy activities for all age groups within their community.
  • To conduct at least one annual literacy month of activities as well as other projects.
  • To partner with Maine Reads Literacy Project.
  • To create a Community Advisory Panel that would conduct a public forum to identify literacy needs and provide potential projects and partnerships to meet the under-served needs of the community.
  • To complete a reporting process.
