Maine Community Literacy Project

The Maine Reads Task Force is pleased to announce a state-wide, community-based Literacy Project.

The Vision of the project:

To view Maine as a state of life-long learners. A place where every child, every family, and every community is strengthened through libraries and literacy programs that encourage reading.

The Goal of the project:

To strengthen communities, families, and children through reading, literacy programs, and libraries.

The Objectives are:

To use community libraries as literacy centers that provide literacy activities for all age groups within their community.
To conduct at least one annual literacy month of activities as well as other projects.
To partner with Maine Reads Literacy Project.
To create a Community Advisory Panel that would conduct a public forum to identify literacy needs and provide potential projects and partnerships to meet the under-served needs of the community.
To complete a reporting process.
