For Corrections Officers

In-Service Training Requirements For All Corrections Officers

The following forms are available for download in either PDF or Microsoft Word or Power Point format. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print them. Microsoft Word format requires either Microsoft Word or the free Microsoft Word Reader. Microsoft PowerPoint format requires either Microsoft PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer. The 2008 mandatory in-service corrections training is:

  1. New Law Updates (none)
  2. Unarmed Self-Defense Refresher - from existing Academy curriculum
  3. Report Writing - from existing Level 'A' curriculum (using DVD scenarios developed by MCJA & MCC). These have already been distributed to every agency.
  4. Two (2) topics of choice - each facility will choose two (2) topics in areas of need for them. The topics cannot be OSHA nor Dept. of Labor requirements, must be pre-approved by the Academy, and must be accompanied by a Lesson Plan.

In 2009, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

  1. New Law Updates (to include LD 2080) - material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office
  2. Confidentiality
  3. Dealing with Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
  4. Two (2) Elective topics of choice - each facility will choose two (2) topics in areas of need for them. The topics cannot be OSHA nor Department of Labor requirements, must be pre-approved by the Academy, and must be accompanied by an Academy-approved Lesson Plan. The deadline for submitting topics and lesson plans is Dec. 31, 2008.
