$400,000 in Grant Money Available for Outdoor Recreation Projects
Municipalities Encouraged to Apply; Deadline June 30, 2001

AUGUSTA, Maine - (January 18, 2001) The Department of Conservation's Bureau of Parks and Lands announced today that $400,000 is available to municipalities for outdoor recreation-related projects such as baseball fields and playground development. Grant applications are available from the Bureau of Parks and Lands and are due June 30, 2001. The funding source is the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).

Municipalities may apply for up to 50% project funding with a maximum of $25,000 in federal assistance for any one project. Projects for which funding may be provided include, but are not limited to, baseball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, municipal park development, tennis courts and acquisition of land for public outdoor recreation.
