Rare Animals

Information about Maine's rare, threatened, and endangered animal species is maintained by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. As of 1997, 47 species of fish and wildlife are listed as endangered or threatened in Maine, either under Maine's Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Endangered Species Act, or both.
