Figure 2. Saco Bay has the largest contiguous beach system in the state, extending from the headland of Fletcher Neck in the south, to Prouts Neck and the Scarborough River in the north. The majority of sediment in the bay is from the Saco River and reworked materials from southern beaches. Western Beach is located at the northeastern end of the bay (2001 and 2003 imagery from MEGIS).
