Figure 5. Marble exposed on the small island in Jamies Pond. Note the thin beds of marble that are granular in appearance because of the coarse grains of calcite that developed during metamorphism. Between the marble beds are more resistant beds of schist that give this outcrop a ribbed appearance. Some of the beds are folded in this exposure. Last updated on July 5, 2007 |
