Information for the Public

In today's world, people need to make decisions concerning development, resource conservation, and the environment. Issues such as ground water resources and contamination, waste disposal, and coastal development require an awareness of possible geologic and ecologic implications.

The Maine Geological Survey publishes the results of investigations relating to ground water, coastal processes, mineral resources, and basic geology. These maps and reports provide a basis for decisions by the general public, government, educational institutions, business, and industry.
