With the April 18th signing of S.P. 908 (see below), which acted on the Task Force's recommendations and included them into law, the Governor's Task Force on Wind Power Development has completed their objective and is no longer active.
Governor's Task Force on Wind Power Development
By Executive Order 31 FY 06/07, dated May 8, 2007, Governor Baldacci established the Governor's Task Force on Wind Power Development whose core duties include examination of the regulatory processes, review criteria and financing options currently applicable to wind power projects proposed in Maine; identification of potential barriers to their development; and recommendation of changes to state policies, regulatory requirements and financial incentives deemed necessary to facilitate siting wind power projects in Maine in a manner that generates the benefits of this indigenous, renewable energy resource for Maine people without undue adverse effects on other natural resources values and uses.
The following three primary objectives underlying the Executive Order define the purposes for which the Task Force was created:
- To make Maine a leader in wind power development;
- To protect Maine’s quality of place and natural resources; and
- To maximize the tangible benefits Maine people receive from wind power development.
The web page is intended to provide key information related on the Task Force's work (see links in the column to the left) as well as a convenient means for the submission of public comments as its study progresses.
