Auburn will host a community forestry workshop
targeting the general public who want more information about
understanding and improving their backyard habitats. The Twin
Cities of Lewiston and Auburn held a similar workshop in 2004
and will use Project Canopy funding to enhance the program,
diversify speakers, and improve outreach. |

City of Augusta |

By planting 25 trees along New England Road, Augusta will
enhance the aesthetics and environmental quality of a neighborhood
that currently lacks adequate tree cover. |
|
Coastal Maine Botanical
Garden |
| |
Project Canopy funds will be used to plant trees along Bartens
Island Road in Boothbay. This project will add a native tree
component to the botanical garden’s plant offerings,
and afford visitors an opportunity to learn about the value
of trees and witness them growing in a landscaped environment. |

Cumberland County
Soil and Water Conservation District |

The Bicentennial Park Outdoor Classroom Project will improve
the health and sustainability of a 4-acre park as an urban
forest, establish an outdoor classroom for Westbrook schools,
educate the community on healthy forestry, and encourage use
of public green spaces. |

City of Ellsworth |
| |
Ellsworth will convert the former commercial property on High
Street into a city park. Project Canopy assistance will provide
an important landscape component to the overall park project.
High Street is a highly urbanized part of Ellsworth in desperate
need of trees and green space. |
|
Town of Fairfield |
| |
In an effort to develop long-term strategies for managing
Fairfield’s green spaces, the town will work with a consultant
to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the town’s
green spaces. |
|
Gray Community Endowment |
| |
The Gray Community Endowment (GCE) will hire a professional
forester to develop a community forestry management plan for
the recently acquired 70 acre forest parcel adjacent to the
town-owned Libby Hill Forest. |
|
City of Hallowell |
| |
Project Canopy grant funds will be used to help the Hallowell
tree board transplant trees from the city nursery to several
vacant planting locations throughout the city. |
|
Town of Holden |
| |
To improve the safety of the Holden Community Learning Nature
Trails, the town will hire a contractor to identify and remove
hazard trees along the nature trails. |
|
Town of Livermore |
| |
The Livermore Cemetery Committee will use Project Canopy grant
funds to plant trees on public properties as part of the town’s
efforts to improve the health and quality of its community
forest. |
|
Town of Lyman |
| |
Lyman will work with a consultant to develop community forestry
management plans on three municipal forest parcels totaling
approximately 200 acres. This project will help Lyman maximize
value of existing and future timber, increase recreational
use and public education, and establish a program to help Lyman
an elementary school students learn about forest management. |

Town of Machiasport |
| |
Machiasport will develop a community forest management plan
on 250 acres of town-owned forest land. This project will help
Machiasport increase public awareness of the community forest,
and establish pong-term forest management goals for the property. |

McLaughlin Foundation |
| |
The McLaughlin Foundation will plant trees in the public right
of way along Route 26 in S. Paris. This project will add needed
green space to the route 26 Corridor and help McLaughlin Gardens
in their efforts to educate the public about horticulture and
community forestry. |

Town of North Yarmouth |
| |
North Yarmouth will plant a riparian buffer along Chandler
Brook on the town-owned Hawke’s property. This property
currently lacks adequate vegetation for the riparian zone and
will be significantly improved by the addition of native plant
species. |

Town of Old Orchard
Beach |
| |
The Town of Old Orchard Beach will plant12 trees as part of
the Veteran’s Memorial Park revitalization effort. This
project is a first step in the town’s efforts to develop
a long-term community forestry program. |

Town of Pittsfield |
| |
Pittsfield intends to create a street tree inventory, develop
an urban forestry management plan for the town’s street
trees, and present findings to school science classes. Addition
public education efforts will include urban forestry walking
tours and a tree-care public forum. |
|
Poland Regional
High School |
| |
Poland Regional High School will create a vegetative buffer
along the boundaries of the school property. This project is
partnership between students at the high school, town officials,
Shaker Hill Nursery, and the Androscoggin Soil and Water Conservation
District. |

Town of Readfield |
| |
The Readfield Conservation Commission will broaden public
awareness and use of town woodlands by printing and distributing
color maps of outdoor recreation and conservation areas in
town. |

Town of Skowhegan |
| |
Skowhegan will develop a comprehensive forestry management
plan for the town’s urban areas. The project will help
Skowhegan move toward its goal of sustainable urban forest
management. |

University of Maine
at Farmington |
| |
The early Childhood Community Forestry Project is a collaborative,
multi generational project aimed at improving the University
of Maine at Farmington’s arboretum, and educating the
public about the benefits of trees and forests. |
|
Rockland |
| |
Project Canopy funding will help Rockland purchase trees for
Chapman Park in Downtown Rockland. This project supports Rockland’s
community forestry improvement efforts and Rockland’s
business enhancement project. |
