Any applications received will be put on a waiting list in case more funding becomes available.
Reimbursing eligible applicants for 50% of costs up to a maximum of $5,000 for the purchase or construction of portable bridges for use on timber harvests

Construction of a portable wooden skidder bridge.
Of all aspects of timber harvesting, stream crossings have the greatest potential to negatively impact water quality. Using portable bridges for temporary stream crossings is one of the simplest, most environmentally friendly and cost effective ways to cross streams. This Maine Forest Service project will help loggers and others involved with harvesting timber in the Sebago Lake and Presumpscot River watersheds purchase portable bridges for use on forestry operations.
Who is eligible to apply?
Certified Logging Professionals, Master Loggers and forestry service providers based within 25 miles of the Sebago/Presumpscot watersheds (pdf) or who have been listed on a forest operations notification for a harvest in the Sebago/Presumpscot watershed since January 1 2009. Forestry service providers include private consulting foresters and companies owned by or employing licensed foresters. Program funds are limited and applications will be accepted on a first come-first-served basis.

Installation of a portable steel skidder bridge.
How does the program work?
Maine Forest Service will provide a cost-share option to obtain a portable bridge or bridges for your harvest operations. Eligible applicants may apply for cost-share to build or buy wood or steel portable bridge(s) that meet program specifications. Once the new bridge is completed, the owner will be reimbursed for 50% of the bridge’s cost up to a maximum of $5,000 per applicant. Multiple sets of bridges may be purchased or constructed. THIS IS A REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM. YOUR APPLICATION MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE A BRIDGE IS BUILT OR PURCHASED.
The Maine Forest Service will host a skidder bridge construction workshop in the project area this spring. Attendance is not required to participate in this program.
For minimum bridge specifications and other program requirements please see the application (pdf) and minimum specifications sheets (pdf).
