Public law requires owners or operators of roundwood processing operations
in Maine to report the amount of roundwood processed annually.
This includes, but is not limited to: Pulp & Paper Mills,
Sawmills, Wood-to-Energy Facilities, all Custom Sawmills, Firewood dealers.
In addition, any firms or individual who imports or exports
forest products, such as logger/harvester and brokers, must
also report.
In accordance
with statute, volume information contained in the Wood Processor
Reports is confidential and shall not be made public. However,
summary reports may be published using aggregate data that
do not reveal the activities of an individual person or firm.
Accurate reporting of this information is critically important.
Aggregate data gathered from the Wood Processor Reports will be used
with other information systems: to determine the statewide
harvest of Maine's forest resources; to improve the accuracy
of scientific modeling of future forest dynamics; to monitor
regional consumption, tracking important commercial species
such as white pine, spruce and fir; and to give the public,
legislature, and industry a comprehensive look at the status
of Maine's forests each year. The information is used to produce
the annual Wood
processor Report, including Import and Export Information.
We help you make informed decisions about Maine's forests.
