Applying for Seasonal Positions

Thank you for your interest in employment possibilities with the Maine Department of Conservation, Bureau of Parks and Lands. There are two regions within the Bureau of Parks and Lands: The Southern Region provides administrative support for State Parks and Historic Sites from Kittery to Augusta. The Northern Region provides administrative support for State Parks and Historic Sites from Thomaston to Fort Kent.

*Note: the Northern Region does not supervise operations at Baxter State Park, Acadia National Park, or any unit of Maine's Public Reserved Lands.

Following is some general information regarding seasonal employment in Maine State Parks:
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 17 or older)
  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.
  • In general, housing is not available
  • Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required.

Apply for specific positions: Each year we receive many resumes and applications from individuals indicating they will work anywhere, in any position. Unfortunately, thesetypes of applications are often overlooked during our active, but short, recruitment period.

Please complete a Direct Hire Application for the following positions in which you are interested. The Direct Hire Application form can be downloaded and printed out. Completed applications should be mailed to the park you are interested in applying to. Please do not send applications via email.

Apply directly to the park: seasonal employees at most areas are hired by individual park managers, who recruit and select applicants locally. The regional offices serve as clearinghouses for applications and information, but do not generally make hiring decisions. Applications are forwarded to local parks and historic sites for consideration.

Please follow through: Once you have applied for a position, follow through with a call to the park manager to discuss a possible interview. Interviews are conducted to assist us in selecting individuals to fill most positions. Since many of our parks are seasonal, park staff may not be available to take your call during the early spring months. If you are unable to get through to a particular park, please feel free to contact the appropriate regional office for assistance.
