AUGUSTA (June 20): The Sears Island Planning Initiative public meeting Saturday, June 24, at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center, will be conducted in an “Open Space” format, with trained facilitators offering direction.

"This event is not about listening to presentations by the ‘experts,’" said Karin Tilberg, deputy commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation. "It is an opportunity for participants to roll up their sleeves and do some creative thinking, problem-solving, visioning and priority-setting with others from around the state. The goal for the day is to generate ideas and themes which give guidance to the Steering Committee, at an early stage of its deliberations, as it debates future land uses for Sears Island."

Registration is mandatory. There is no charge to register. The meeting will run from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center on Route 3. The schedule may be found at http://www.maine.gov/doc/initiatives/SearsIsland/SearsIsland.shtml .
