Floodplain Management Program

Best Available Data for A Zone Areas

The following table provides information about the best available data for certain water bodies which has been gathered by the Maine Floodplain Management Program for communities with unnumbered "A" zones on their Flood Insurance Rate Map or Flood Hazard Boundary Map. Additional guidance for dealing with unnumbered A Zones in Maine can be found in the article Dealing with Unnumbered A Zones in Maine.

Although the Maine State Floodplain Management Program considers the information in the table below to be the best available data at the time this information was posted, it is the community's responsibility to decide what information it will use to administer it's floodplain management regulations.

The base flood elevation indicated in these reports should be used as best available data, unless the community has more recent data available for the same water bodies. For most lakes and ponds, the base flood elevation (BFE) is provided. For data on rivers, brooks or streams, please contact the Maine Floodplain Management Program directly. Paper copies of the source of Best Available Data can be provided.
