Property Tax Educational Programs

General Information

The Property Tax School is held annually, the first week of August. The school is the centerpiece of the Training and Certification program which is administered by the state's Property Tax Division.

The Property Tax Institute, which offers specialized training for certified assessors, is held annually in the spring or early summer.

The Property Tax Academy, is a one- to two-day virtual virtual seminar in the late-fall or early-winter that covers a variety of assessing topics.  

The IAAO Courses, week-long courses from the International Association of Assessing Officers, are currently held twice a year.  The courses will ordinarily be offered in March and November.

Property Tax Academy

The 2024 Property Tax Academy, is a virtual seminar being held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 8:30am to 4:15pm.  The 2024 Property Tax Academy will give property tax professionals the opportunity to learn about a variety of property tax-related topics, ranging from the property tax implications of PFAS to the fundamentals of data evaluation. The seminar qualifies for continuing education credits, including ethics credits, for Certified Maine Assessors. To learn more or register for this year’s seminar, see the 2024 registration packet.

Property Tax Institute

The Property Tax Division hosts an annual spring educational event offering advanced continuing education. The 2024 event was held on June 4-5. 

Property Tax School

The 2024 Maine Property Tax School was held at the University of Maine at Augusta campus from Monday, July 29 to Friday, August 2, 2024.
