FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 18, 2010

EVENT: 3rd ANNUAL MAINE WARDEN SERVICE FALLEN OFFICERS MEMORIAL RUN

WHEN: Monday, October 18, 2010 10 a.m.

WHERE: Maine Criminal Justice Academy (Vassalboro) to Maine Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (State House Grounds)

WHAT: Members of the Maine Warden Service will participate in a half-marathon (13.1 miles) to remember the sacrifices of Game Wardens who have died in the line of duty.

The Fallen Officer Memorial Run begins at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro and finishes at the Maine Law Enforcement Officers Memorial at the State House, where the names of all of Maine’s fallen officers – including 14 Game Wardens – are listed. Maine has lost more Game Wardens in the line of duty than any other state, county or municipal law enforcement agency.

The 13.1-mile run will include 14 checkpoints or stops, and at each a member of the Maine Warden Service Honor Guard will attach the name of one fallen Game Warden to a memorial flag. The lead runners will alternate among the team of runners and share in the honor of running with the flag.

A remembrance ceremony will take place at the Maine Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
