Duchesne, Dunphy to serve on nationwide policy panels

May 18, 2015

AUGUSTA – Reps. Bob Duchesne, D-Hudson, and Michelle Dunphy, D-Old Town, will each serve on a national panel of state lawmakers.

Duchesne was appointed to the Legislative Effectiveness Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures, or NCSL. The committee brings state lawmakers from across the country together to work on issues including legislative ethics, structure and staffing, training and rules.

“I look forward to the opportunity to share strategies for increasing legislative effectiveness, efficiency and transparency with colleagues from around the country,” said Duchesne.

Dunphy earned a spot on the Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee. The committee works on issues such as agriculture, environmental policy and transportation issues.

“I am passionate about the work we are doing on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee here in Maine. I look forward to collaborating with lawmakers from other states to find ways to advance that work and promote our natural resources-based economy,” said Dunphy.

The panels are two of NCSL’s committees that exist to foster cooperation between lawmakers from different states working on similar policy issues and to inform federal policymakers on issues impacting state governments. NCSL is a national organization that serves the interests of state legislatures by providing states support, ideas, and connections for policy and effectiveness.

House Speaker Mark Eves, D-North Berwick, appointed Duchesne and Dunphy to the policy panels.
