ACE Camp to Open in Portland and Bangor
Portland/Bangor – Maine ACE Camps are a unique educational, hands-on, local as well as nation-wide program co-sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration with community support from the U.S. Military, State and local aviation businesses, general aviation, corporate aviation, seaplane pilot groups and hundreds of volunteers.
These camps are designed for middle and high school students ages12-17, who have a strong desire to learn about aviation and explore possible aeronautical careers. ACE Camp students are supervised the entire week by a professional staff consisting of Coordinator, Director, Assistant Director, Lead counselor, Counselors and Chaperones. ACE Camp staff has strong aviation backgrounds and are ready and willing to pass on their enthusiasm to the next generation of aviators.
Students who attend ACE Camp have the fortunate opportunity to see up close and first-hand, how our aviation system works from the inside out. Students tour local facilities and meet military and civilian experts who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.
ACE Camp students get time flying in the “right seat” of land and seaplanes. Students often get the opportunity to walk through and go up in various and experience a touch and go landing, the Bangor or Portland Air Traffic Control towers and radar rooms watching incoming and outgoing traffic, walk through and learn about aircraft maintenance as well a visit to seaplane bases, picnics, class room learning and in the field experiences.
If you want to have a different and unique experience this summer, want to learn about aviation in the military and civilian sector, want to meet others from around the country, want to spend time outdoors and want to have a lot of fun, come join us at the Maine Ace Camps. Portland ACE Camp runs Monday July 21 through July 25 and is 8am to 5 pm each day, based at the Alton Cianchette Boy Scout Center. Our Bangor ACE Camp runs Sunday July 27 through August 2 and is a full camping experience.
