Penobscot Narrows Bridge Inspection to Impact Traffic

Prospect/Verona – The Penobscot Narrows Bridge, which carries Route 1 over the Penobscot River, will undergo an inspection and bridge survey beginning on Thursday, December 5th.

During this work, there will be intermittent road closures and lane shifts during the daytime and overnight hours.

While conducting the bridge survey, intermittent road closures of up to 45 minutes will occur from 10 p.m. Thursday, December 5th until 4 a.m. Friday, December 6th.

During the inspection, there will be alternating 2-way traffic between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Thursday, December 5th to Tuesday, December 10th.

Motorists should allow extra time when planning on traveling this bridge during these hours.

The inspection will include gaining access to the bottom of the concrete structure, the supporting cables and the supporting pylons.

The survey will be performed to ensure the bridge is maintaining its desired design geometry.
