I-295 Construction Work Will Take A Labor Day Vacation

PORTLAND, Maine – Motorists who utilize I-295 in the Portland area during Labor Day Weekend should face fewer road construction delays as work for the I-295 surface road projects will be suspended from 6 a.m. on Friday, September 2 until after 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 9.

There will be some I-295 sub-road work which will take place below the overpasses north of Tukeys Bridge in Portland, but this is not expected to affect the traffic flow on the highway itself.

The $24 million I-295 project, which got under way in May, has seen maintenance and repair work on several dozen bridges and overpasses and miles of paving and guardrail installation from Scarborough north to Brunswick.

Throughout the project, MaineDOT has aimed to minimize the impact on motorists while improving the safety and efficiency of Maine’s busiest highway.

With the final phases of the I-295 project stretching into early fall, MaineDOT reminds drivers that traffic backups are still possible during peak traffic hours.
