Falmouth Bridge To Close Intermittently Next Week For Steel Deliveries
Motorists who utilize Route 26/100 in Falmouth should be aware of possible delays on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week (July 12-15) as construction crews must close the Falmouth Railroad Bridge in order to offload steel beams that will be utilized in the construction of the new bridge.
Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each day, there will be closures that will last approximately 15 minutes in order to unload large steel beams from delivery trucks. Currently the schedule calls for only one closure during the day on Tuesday and Friday, and two closures on both Wednesday and Thursday.
The Railroad Crossing Bridge in Falmouth spans the Presumpscot River and the Pan Am railroad line near the Portland town line.
This is the next step in construction for the new bridge being built downstream of the current bridge. Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2011. Once the new bridge is opened, crews will dismantle and remove the old bridge. The total cost of the bridge replacement project is $10.5 million. CPM Constructors of Freeport is the contractor for the project.
The Railroad Crossing Bridge was built in 1932 and is 834 feet long.
