Construction set to begin on Route 196 in Topsham

Construction is set to begin Sunday night on a section of Route 196 between I-295 and Route 201 in Topsham.

Crews will be removing the top layer of the existing, deteriorating pavement, and then repaving that section of Route 196 from the I-295 bridge to the intersection of Route 196 and Main Street (Route 201).

Due to the high traffic volumes, all work is scheduled for night hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists should be aware of potential lane shifts, uneven pavement, and raised manholes and drainage basins during construction hours. At times, there may be flaggers or police officers present to direct traffic.

If the project proceeds as planned and there are no delays, work is expected to be complete by October 9.

Motorists are asked to drive carefully through the construction area, and to be aware of construction workers in the work zone area.
