Sec. Dunlap to recognize Town of Thomaston as 250th Rapid Renewal participant

AUGUSTA - Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap will visit the Town of Thomaston on Friday to acknowledge the milestone of the 250th town to launch Rapid Renewal, the Department of the Secretary of State’s online service for the renewal of motor vehicle registrations.

WHEN: Friday, March 22, 11 a.m.

WHERE: Thomaston town office, 170 Main St., Thomaston.

WHO: Town Clerk Kara George and Town Manager Val Blastow, as well as other town staff and Board of Selectmen Chairman Peter Lammert will welcome Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap and Deputy Secretary of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Patty Morneault. Representatives of InforME, the administrator for Maine.gov online services, will also take part in the visit, including General Manager Dan Andrews and Project Manager Deirdre Berglund.

WHAT: Sec. Dunlap and the InforME team will present a commemorative gift basket to the Thomaston team and welcome them to the Rapid Renewal service. Rapid Renewal is an e-commerce service allowing citizens to conduct business with municipal government and state government in one seamless online transaction. While municipal participation in Rapid Renewal is optional, the service has now grown to 250 municipalities and has seen more than 1,723,392 transactions processed to date.

WHY: Through Rapid Renewal, citizens can quickly and easily renew their vehicle registrations and pay their municipal excise taxes online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

HOW: Rapid Renewal may be accessed through www.sosonline.org, the Secretary of State’s site for online services. The Town of Thomaston will accept payments via e-check and credit card. Residents can continue to visit the town office to pay in person, but now also have the option of conducting these transactions online. Municipal officials who would like more information about participating in Rapid Renewal are encouraged to contact the Department of the Secretary of State at 626-8400 or by email at sos.office@maine.gov.
