Secretary Dunlap Announces Official Tabulation of 2016 General and Referendum Election Results

AUGUSTA  ? The official tabulation of votes from the 2016 General and Referendum Election is now available, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced Thursday. Gov. Paul LePage issued the proclamation of the certified results Thursday afternoon.

The full results will be posted online at http://maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/results/index.html.

The General Election tabulation includes the certified election results for the statewide offices of Maine?s Representatives to Congress, members of the Maine Legislature, and certain county officers, as well as the federal offices of President/Vice President of the United States of America.

The Referendum Election tabulation includes the certified election results for the statewide referendum and bond questions:

  • Question 3: An Act To Require Background Checks for Gun Sales
  • Question 4: An Act To Raise the Minimum Wage
  • Question 5: An Act To Establish Ranked-choice Voting
  • Question 6: An Act To Authorize a General Fund Bond Issue to Improve Highways, Bridges and Multimodal Facilities

The legislation approved by voters in Questions 4-6 will become law 30 days from today (Jan. 7, 2017).

The certified, official tabulations of Questions 1 and 2 have not yet been proclaimed. Question 1, ?An Act to Legalize Marijuana,? is undergoing a recount, so an updated tally will be certified and issued to the governor for proclamation once that process is completed. The proclamation of Question 2, ?An Act To Establish The Fund to Advance Public Kindergarten to Grade 12 Education,? is also delayed, as a recount was initially requested for this question and later withdrawn.
