Main offices of BMV in Augusta to be Relocated during Roof Replacement

AUGUSTA ? Staff on the second floor of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles main office building will be relocated this spring and summer while the roof is replaced.

The roof replacement project on the 101 Hospital St. building is set to begin this week, Thursday, April 2, and continue through Aug. 1. The 78,400-square-foot building was constructed in 1992.

While the roof work is under way, staff in the Vehicle Services and Administration Services divisions will be relocated to the third floor of the Marquardt building, across the street at 32 Blossom Lane. The building is operated by the Bureau of General Services.

The Driver License Services, Stockroom, Information Services and the Motor Carrier divisions on the first floor and ground level of the BMV main office building will remain on site during the roof work.

Administration Services will be moved on April 1-3, while Vehicle Services will be moved on April 6-7.?The Department of the Secretary of State?s Human Resources and Staff
Development offices will also be relocated to the Marquardt building during this time and will be moving April 2.

During these move dates, customers will continue to be served at the main office. After April 7, the public is advised to go to the Marquardt building for registration, titles, long-term trailers, disability plates, placards, temporary plates and dealer licensing services. A map with directions is attached.?

The impact on the public is expected to be minimal, as the main office move will not affect services at the BMV branch office at 19 Anthony Ave., where registrations, plates,?driver licenses?and state?identification cards?can be obtained, as well as disability placards and dealer temporary plates.

Amec Foster Wheeler of Portland is providing architectural, engineering, design, bid procurement and project management services for the roof replacement. Roof Systems of Maine, Inc. from Bangor is the roofing contractor. The parking lot on the east side of the BMV main office building, adjacent to the ball fields, will be fenced off for the roofing equipment and materials for the duration of the project.
