Intern Forester

Intern Forester means a person authorized by the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation under the sponsorship of a licensed forester to perform professional services requiring the application of forestry principles and techniques, including investigations, consultations, development of forest management plans, supervision of forest management, forest utilization, forest economics or other forestry activities carried out in connection with public or private lands.

General Requirements

  • Completed application to include:
    • Transcripts for forestry curriculum as described below.

Requirements for Intern Forester with an SAF accredited program:

  • Minimum Associate degree from an approved forestry curriculum accredited by the Society of American Foresters or certified by the Canadian Institute of Forestry, OR

  • The board may, at its discretion, grant an internship to an applicant who holds a degree from a program not accredited by the Society of American Foresters or certified by the Canadian Institute of Forestry, OR

Requirements for Intern Forester without a degree:
The board may, at its discretion, grant a variance to an applicant who does not hold a degree but has completed:

  • four years of lawful work experience registered with the board (click on link to access Registration of Unlicensed Individuals form) during the 8 years preceding the application (see Rule Chapter 40, Sections 3), and;
  • a minimum of 60 hours of supplemental education (click on link to access supplemental education reporting form) completed during the 4 years preceding the date of application(see Rule Chapter 40, Section 4) .

Renewal fees and information

Fees
  • Annual renewal fee is $70.00
  • A late fee of $50 is assessed for licenses renewed after December 31.
Terms
  • This license renews annually on December 31
Requirements
  • A late fee of $50.00 is assessed for licenses renewed after December 31.
  • A person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the license expiration date but within 2 years after the expire date is subject to an additional $50 late fee in addition to the 90 days late fee and renewal fee.
  • Renewal reminders are emailed approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the board informed of the current email address and to see that the license is renewed.
  • CONTINUING Education - 6 hours of continuing professional education is required for renewal.
