Disability Insurance Basics

If your income from work is the only way you are able to pay for your daily expenses, you may want to consider purchasing individual disability insurance.

Benefits are usually a percentage of your regular income or a flat dollar amount. Either way, benefit payments are usually less than your full income - but people who purchase disability insurance do so because some income is better than no income.

An Important Point to Keep in Mind:

Don't assume that all disability insurance is the same. Disability policies have different benefits and different exclusions (situations or conditions that aren't covered).

The best way to understand your coverage is to read your policy.
