Protecting and Assisting Consumers
The Maine Bureau of Insurance works to ensure that the companies and individuals working in the insurance industry abide by state laws when doing business with Maine consumers. The Bureau has two consumer divisions:
- Property & Casualty Division - handles property and liability insurance issues;
- Consumer Health Care Division - handles health, disability, long-term care, life insurance issues, etc.
Staff members from both divisions are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to discuss concerns and answer questions that Maine residents may have about insurance in general or about specific policies and claims. Contact information is provided below.
Contact us before you buy, with any questions you may have, or call us to discuss a complaint or request a hearing at: (207) 624-8475 or (800) 300-5000; at Maine Relay 711 (for the hard of hearing); or at Insurance.PFR@maine.gov.
