Intern & Mentorship Program

With a critical gap in our workforce that needs immediate attention, it is our desire to invest in the program that allows for flexibility in a changing environment.

The Intern & Mentoring Program is a creative and proactive approach to help fix the critical staffing needs; as well as foster relationships with our community colleges and universities, career centers, and technical programs. This program also educates the upcoming workforce about technology jobs in the State of Maine, and inspires and engages our existing workforce as mentors.

The Intern & Mentorship program started in January of 2013. We had a total of seven interns work in a variety of departments at the State of Maine Office of Information Technology. After a successful inaugural run of this program, we have continued to invite additional interns to join us for three to six months at a time.

Four Reasons this program helps OIT and the State of Maine:

  1. We are realizing an increase in IT talent from the Program
  2. Approximately 80% of those seeking employment at the end of an Internship or Apprenticeship are hired as State of Maine employees. Several have been with us for over 2-3 years
  3. Gainfully employed workers contribute to the overall economy in Maine, they earn and they spend
  4. Employed workers have less time to get involved in substance abuse and crime

Open Internship Positions:

*To apply for an internship position with the Office of Information Technology please send your cover letter, resume and list of 3 references to Courtney French or Carrie Valentine. **All internships with OIT are paid positions.
