Description

Responsible for day-to-day operation of Reference Division; developing the library's information resources; collaborating with community organizations and assisting users in locating information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Answers reference questions and concerns 2. Participates in the hiring process including interviews 3. Contacts local organizations to determine their library needs 4. Promotes library services 5. Teaches patrons to effectively use library resources 6. Gives explanatory talks and classes both in and out of the Library 7. Assists patrons in computer usage 8. Supervises the Inter-Library Loan operations 9. Maintains communication with professional colleagues 10. Collects statistics as needed or assigned 11. Responsible for long-range planning for the Reference Division 12. Performs staff appraisals on a consistent basis 13. Responsible for building-wide supervision in absence of Director and Deputy Director 14. Conducts staff training 15. May be involved in discipline issues 16. Involved in collection development for several different areas 17. Maintains a knowledgeable awareness of information packaging and delivery systems 18. Assists with the marketing of the Library's services to the community 19. Assists with the planning and implementation of programs for teens and adults 20. Assists with the development of the Library's web pages 21. Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises full and part time reference division staff; may supervise library facility from time-to-time in the absence of the Director or Deputy Director

Education and/or Experience:

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent in Library Science with three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
