5/17/2018 - Wiscasset Route 1 Downtown Updates: 05/17/2018

The contract has been awarded to Pike Industries of Fairfield, ME. Pike is currently planning out their work activities and developing a schedule to submit to MaineDOT. Once MaineDOT receives a schedule, we will have more information to share. It is expected that most work on Railroad Avenue and Water Street north of Main Street will be substantially completed prior to major construction activities beginning on Main Street.

Due to high daily commuter traffic volumes on Route 1 and downtown business access concerns, most construction work for the project will only be performed at night between 8 PM and 6 AM, Sunday night through Friday morning.

Currently the start of construction is anticipated just after Memorial Day. Prior to the start of construction, you will see the contractor installing construction signs and mobilizing equipment and materials to the area. Portions of Railroad Avenue are expected to be used for material staging and equipment storage. MaineDOT’s property at 36 Water Street will be used as a project field office for MaineDOT and the contractor.
