Lunt Road I-295 Bridge Replacement in Falmouth
The Falmouth Lunt Road Bridge, spanning 1-295, is being replaced. The new bridge will be built in stages with construction completion slated for November 2019. The new bridge superstructure will be made of steel and boast a curb-to-curb width of 32-feet. This includes a wider sidewalk, and shoulders that have been widened from two feet to five feet.
The current bridge, built in 1960, was in poor to fair condition. The deck had advanced deterioration, and the substructure/foundations had minor section loss.
Lunt Road has been changed to one lane of alternating two-way traffic. There is a temporary signal in place at both ends with warning signs. Lunt Road may be closed between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM Sunday through Thursday while steel girders are set, and final surface paving takes place.
Single lane closures will be allowed on I-295 Sunday through Thursday between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM. One 12-foot lane and two 2-foot shoulders will remain open during these times. Full lane closures on I-295 will be allowed Monday through Friday between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM. These closures will primarily be used for placing the steel girders.
