There has been a water main break on Route 3 in Hull's Cove near the Acadia National Park entrance. This is a town issue and not related to MaineDOTs Route 3 project. The traveling public can expect alternating one-way traffic and delays while these repairs are taking place.
At this time, repairs are expected to take place Monday, April 22nd.
Traffic will be two-way until paving begins, approximately during the first few weeks of May. After that, the one-way detour will be up and running again, utilizing the Park Loop Road.
The contractor has already starting working on Eden Street in downtown Bar Harbor, updating crosswalks so they are ADA-compliant. Next week things will be getting a little busier, and they will be working in the areas stated below:
Placing ADA compliant ramps at sidewalks/crossings at various locations along the project
Placing curbing on Dreamwood Hill towards the beginning of the project, as well as from the Bar Harbor Yacht Club to Duck Brook
Placing new guardrail from the Bluffs area to Duck Brook
Placing a new water service for the Connors School on Eagle Lake Road
Working on widening the shoulder area across from Sand Point Road

Bar Harbor Suspending Work for the Year
- Shut down for the winter is scheduled for November 30th.
- Work will begin again on March 30th, 2019.
- The project completion date is expected to be June 15th, 2019.
- Planned work for 2019 will include concrete curbing, and ADA ramp and drainage work. In the spring, erosion will be cleaned up and sidewalks will be paved, as will a few driveways. A further stretch of road will be surface paved, and new trees will be planted. An escape shoulder will be added at Sand Point Road, and various other improvements will be made.

The contractor will be working in the areas stated below for the week:
- Working on shaping, placing stone, and loaming inslopes from the Acadia National Park entrance through the Bluffs
- Placing new concrete curbing from the Acadia National Park entrance into the Bluffs
- Grade and pave driveways from the Acadia National Park entrance into the Bluffs
- Lower frames and grates from West Street to Duck Brook
- Install new guardrail from Duck Brook to the Bluffs

MaineDOT will have our contractor "micro-mill" the surface of this section of Route 3 on Friday morning, November 2nd. A milling machine with fine cutting teeth will be used to roughen the surface of the pavement to increase the skid resistance. This work will proceed unless we experience heavy rain.
If weather prevents the work from being performed, MaineDOT will continue to monitor the situation and apply sand as needed. An attempt to apply a course grit to the surface was unsuccessful Wednesday due to cool temperatures.
We urge motorists to drive with caution.

As many of you may have noticed, the construction work has slowed down steadily over the winter months. The contractor will be suspending work for the next few weeks until the weather allows for more heavy roadwork to be done.
The utility companies will still be on site switching from the old telephone poles to the new ones so please pay attention to flaggers and signage.
