Instructions for Applying to the Interstate Compact and obtaining Criminal Background Checks
Maine has passed a law to allow it to become a member of the enhanced Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC). If you currently hold a Maine Medical License and meet the qualifications defined by the Compact at http://www.imlcc.org/do-i-qualify/ you can request that Maine be your State of Principal Licensure. The application process can be started at http://www.imlcc.org/applynow/.
The Compact requires that an applicant for licensure submit fingerprints or other biometric-based information for the purpose of obtaining criminal history record information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the agency responsible for retaining Maine’s criminal records. 32 M.R.S. 3275-A. A criminal background check (CBC) must be completed through the Maine Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the FBI based on a set of fingerprints provided to IdentoGO. The Board of Medicine cannot accept fingerprint cards or criminal background check results mailed by you, or results that were completed for another facility, even if the previous check was completed through the DPS and the FBI.
Instructions: Register for fingerprinting online at https://me.ibtfingerprint.com/. If you do not register, you will not be able to have your fingerprints taken. There is a one-time fee for this process.
A Letter of Qualification will not be issued until the results of the criminal background check have been received by the Board of Medicine.
