ROCKLAND?The Rockland CareerCenter, in conjunction with its partners, offers a variety of services that not only help people find employment or upgrade skills but also assist employers in finding qualified workers.

?People looking for a new job can get free assistance from Maine?s CareerCenters,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?Today?s job market is very different than it was even a few years ago, and CareerCenter staff can connect you with today?s job search tools, like email addresses and tips on filling out online applications.?

All businesses looking to hire and people looking for work should register with the Maine Job Bank. This month the Job Bank has approximately 23,000 registered job seekers and more than 5,000 job openings. There is no cost to create a profile if you are a job seeker or to list a job if you are an employer.

The following workshops and programs are free to the public and will be held at the CareerCenter in Rockland unless otherwise noted. Maine Veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs. All events require pre-registration in person or by phone at 207-373-4000.

• GATEways to Employment?Tuesdays, May 7 and 21, 9 a.m. to noon. Designed to help you jumpstart your work search with the latest tips and tools to conduct a successful job search in today?s labor market.

• Career Directions / Putting the Pieces Together?Wednesday, May 1, 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Explores your career interests, aptitudes, values, personality and motivation, and shows how each transfers to today?s job market.

• Resume and Cover Letter Writing?Wednesday, May 15, 9 a.m. to noon. Covers the basics of how to evaluate or create an effective resume and cover letter.

• Effective Job Interviewing?Wednesday, May 22, 9 a.m. to noon. Explores proper interviewing techniques and tips.

• Training for Employment?Every Monday, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Learn about federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act. Training program applications will be provided at the end of the workshop. Applicants must be at least 22.

• Computer Boot Camp? Every Tuesday, 9 to 10 a.m. This workshop for novices covers basic computer components and how to use a mouse. Seating is limited.

The Rockland CareerCenter also features several sessions led by these partner organizations in May:

• Goodwill Workforce Solutions administers federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Certain eligibility requirements apply. If you think you might qualify or could benefit from training, contact the Rockland CareerCenter in at 207-596-2600 to reserve a seat in training orientations offered weekly on Monday afternoons.

• Maine Centers for Women, Work & Community offer no cost classes for both men and women in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities. CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills.
