The Map of Crop Growing Areas includes information on the following sectors: tree planting and harvesting, potatoes, blueberries, apples, broccoli, cranberries, wreaths, and eggs. Tree planting and harvesting occurs throughout the state in rural communities, but is especially prevalent in Northern and Western portions of the state. Potato growing is concentrated in the St. John Valley in Northern Maine and the eastern half of Aroostook County. Additional fields are located in communities in the area to the east of the Town of Lincoln and in the Penquis region west of Bangor. Blueberry harvesting occurs throughout Washington and Hancock Counties and in a region east of Augusta to coastal communities of Rockland and Newcastle. Pockets of blueberry farming are located near Dover Foxcroft, just west of Waterville, and near the communities of Gray, Sanford, and Fryeburg. Apple fields are concentrated in an area west of the I-95 corridor from as far south as York County to the Newport area. Other fields are scattered in regions just east of Augusta, south of Bangor, and near Dover Foxcroft. Broccoli growing is centralized in eastern Aroostook County in the Presque Isle area. Many of Maine's cranberry harvesters are located in Eastern Washington county, but cranberry bogs are also located sporadically throughout the southern half of Maine. Wreath-making is concentrated in Washington County near the town of Cherryfield. Egg processors are located throughout South Central Maine from just west of Bangor, down to the Belfast area and along the Midcoast region through to Lewiston Auburn and up to Wilton. A processor is also noted in the Sanford area.
