Vacancies by Region
For reporting purposes, the state was divided into three regions.

|Central Western||Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford, Somerset|
|Northeastern Counties||Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Washington, Aroostook|
In 2016, the Coastal Counties region was home to a slightly higher concentration of vacancies (55%) than either population (48%) or jobs (51%). Twenty-eight percent of vacancies were located at firms in the Central/Western region, roughly proportional to share of population (27%) and jobs (26%). In the Northeastern region, the share of vacancies was 16 percent, lower than the region's shares of population or jobs (24% and 22%, respectively).

Occupations by Regions
The occupational composition of vacancies only varied slightly across regions. In all regions, healthcare and social assistance, adminstrative and waste services, accomodation and food service, and retail trade were ranked in the top 5.
