2020 Swan Island Events Schedule (PDF)

JULY

10K Race and 5K Race

Sunday, July 26 - 7:30am – 12:00pm
Space Limited: 50 people
Fee: $25.00

Pre-register by calling 207-592-5050 or click here. Board the ferry at 7:30 a.m. (maybe 8am, TBD) to be ferried over to Swan Island. Race kicks off at 9:00 a.m. This year the 10K traverses the scenic gravel road from the campground to the southern end of the historic island and the 5K goes to the northern end.

 

AUGUST

Hunting Workshop: Blood Tracking & Field Dressing

Saturday, August 8 - 8am – 1pm
Space Limited: 20 people

This session is for adults. Interested in hunting but you want to learn more before taking to the field? What happens after harvesting an animal? Come learn from local experts with this hands-on work shop.

There is no fee if you register in advance. Learn more and register online.

Deer Survey

Thursday, August 13 -9:00pm – 11:00pm
Space Limited: 10 people
Fee: Free

A handful of participants will be selected earlier this summer to assist with our first annual deer survey to estimate and track the number of deer on Swan Island. Call 207-287-5322 or email Swan.Island@Maine.gov for more information.

Traditional Lobster Bake

Saturday, August 15 - 3:30pm – 6:30pm
Space Limited: 25 people
Fee: $40 advance payment required.
Bring the family out for a ferry ride to the campground, where you’ll have time to relax or enjoy a short hike. Food is served at 5pm; lobster, clams, corn, potato, coleslaw, and dessert. Call 207-287-5322 to register.

Morning Island Tour

Saturday, August 22 - 7:00am – 9:00am
Space Limited: 25 people

Join Swan Island staff for a morning sightseeing wildlife tour to observe the abundant wildlife when they are more visible. Enjoy riding in our new trolley the length of the island through a variety of habitats. Call 207-287-5322 to register.

 

SEPTEMBER

Historical Tour with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay – On Land

Friday, September 4 - 9:15am to 1:00pm
Space Limited: 25 people

Step back in time with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay (FOMB) on their ever-popular historical tour of Swan Island. FOMB member and Friends of Swan Island president, Jay Robbins, will lead the tour to the unique, isolated island. Folks can bring a snack or lunch, or eat in Richmond upon return.

Historical Tour with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay – By Water

Sunday, September 13 - 3:15pm – 5:30pm
Space Limited: 25 people
Fee: Free!

Second opportunity for September 8th event but this one will be a two-hour narrated tour by water as we circumnavigate the island. Dress for the weather, bring an extra layer and bring your binoculars/camera. Bring a chair if you want to ensure a seat.
