Lobster Bake with boat tour of Little Swan Island

Time: 3:30 PM

Time: 3:30pm – 6:30pm Space Limited: First 50 people Fee: $40 advance payment required. Minimum of 35 reservations required. Bring the family out for some time on the water viewing Little Swan Island and then stop at the campground for a traditional lobster bake! Clams, lobster, corn, potato, salad, and desert. Dress for the weather, as it can be cooler and breezy on the water. Bring your camera and/or binoculars!

Father’s Day - FREE Admission for Maine Residents

Time: All day on our four regularly scheduled ferry trips: 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm Fee: Free! The history of Swan Island and surrounding communities are deeply intertwined, creating a profound sense of appreciation by area residents and visitors. Now we want to invite you to come see what the island has to offer! Hopefully you will return to enjoy some paddling, camping, and hiking, right in your own backyard.

Boat Tour of Swan Island

Date: July 7, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM

Time: 9am – 11am Space Limited: First 40 people Fee: Free! Come enjoy some time on the water as we explore the shores of Swan Island. Dress for the weather, as it can be cooler and breezy on the water. Bring your camera and/or binoculars! Seating for 32 people - but you can bring a chair.

Swan Island takes part in Richmond Days Celebration

Date: July 28, 2018

Time: Ferry/truck tours at 11:15am, 1:15pm, 3:15pm and 5:15pm from mainland Fee: $5 per person. 5 yrs &under free. Each tour will leave the Swan Island landing in the island ferry and travel across the river for a 2 hour tour; returning directly to the dock. The Tubbs-Reed house, filled with many artifacts, will be open to the public! Once back at the dock, you can join in many other Richmond Days festivities. Space is limited, so make sure you put your name on the list at the Friends of Swan island booth located in the Island parking lot. For more information on Richmond Days visit www.richmondmaine.com.

10K Road Race!

Date: July 29, 2018

Time: 7:30 AM

Fee: $25.00 Pre-register online at www.richmondmaine.com. Board the ferry at 7:30am to be ferried over to Swan Island. Race kicks off at 9am. This year the course traverses the scenic gravel road from the campground to the southern end of the historic island. Closer to a trail run than your typical 10K road race.

Swan Island Family Field Day

Date: August 4, 2018

Time: 9:00 AM

Time: 9am – 4pm with ferry rides beginning at 7:30am. Fee: $5/pp or $20/family. Lunch included! Reservations needed! Have you ever considered trying a new outdoor activity or sport? Perhaps you'd like your children to try something new. This is the day for the whole family to try out archery equipment, an ATV, fishing, paddling, geocaching and more! Paddle Tour around Little Swan Island

Date: August 11, 2018

Time: 8:00 AM

8am-9:30am FREE! Bring your canoe or kayak to explore Swan Island while paddling the Kennebec River. This will be a great opportunity to see another perspective of the island and learn about the important wildlife interface between water and land. You might even see a prehistoric looking sturgeon leaping from the water! We will stop part way and have lunch at the campground.
This trip is suitable for beginners, but beware that the river is tidal, so portions of the trip could be “upstream” paddling. Be sure to have PFDs, paddles, canoe or kayak, lunch, water, bug spray, sunscreen, and binoculars/camera.

Morning Island Tour

Time: 7:00 AM

Time: 7:00am – 8:30am Space Limited: First 20 people
Join Swan Island staff for a morning sightseeing wildlife tour to observe the abundant wildlife when they are more visible. Enjoy riding in our tour truck the length of the island through a variety of habitats. Dress for the weather & bring your binocs/camera!

Historical Tour with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay I

Date: September 7, 2018

Time: 9:15 AM

Time: 9:15am to 1:00pm Space Limited: First 40 people Step back in time with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay (FOMB) on their ever-popular historical tour of Swan Island. FOMB member and Friends of Swan Island president, Jay Robbins, will lead the tour to the unique, isolated island.
We'll go by ferry around to the east side campground. Here we'll split into two groups of up to 20. One group will take the new trolley tour and other group will have programming at the boathouse. Then groups will switch. We'll leave from campground just before 1:00pm to return to Richmond landing. Folks can bring a snack or lunch, or eat in Richmond upon return.

Historical Tour with Friends of Merrymeeting Bay II

Time: 3:30pm to 5:30pm Space Limited: First 40 people Fee: Free! Second opportunity for September 7th event but…this one will be a 2 hour narrated tour by water as we circumnavigate the island. Dress for the weather, bring an extra layer and bring your binocs/camera.

Evening Island Tour

Time: 5:00 PM

Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm Space Limited: First 20 people Join Swan Island staff for an evening wildlife sightseeing tour to observe our abundant wildlife when they are more visible. Enjoy riding in our new trolley the length of the island through a variety of habitats. Dress for the weather & don’t forget your binocs/camera!
