03/22/2021-03/28/2021 Troop B Weekly Report

- On 03/26/2021 Cpl. Hink responded to 88 Main St. in Porter for a report of a male breaking into his girlfriend’s house and busting down the door.  Cpl. Hink arrived on scene and observed a male, EVEN SLOAN (24) from Sebago inside the residence through a window.  Sloan came running out of the house and towards Cpl. Hink aggressively before stopping quickly when hearing Cpl. Hink’s K9 Berry barking.  Cpl. Hink was able to detain Sloan who stated he was just getting his things and leaving.  As Cpl. Hink was attempting contact with the female, BREANNA THUOTTE (22), her Pitbull / Terrier mix breed dog bit Cpl. Hink in the left arm.  Oxford County SO arrived, Sloan was allowed to secure some personal items and escorted off the property.  He was charged with Criminal Mischief.  Cpl. Hink went to Bridgton Hospital for evaluation of the dog bite and is currently under the rabies vaccination series as the dog has not seen a vet since 2017.  The ACO was also advised that the dog needs to quarantine for 10-days.  Sgt. Hanson, Tr. Cowie, Oxford Sgt. Ontengco and Oxford Dep. Ryder assisted in the investigation.

- On 03/28/2021 Cpl. Hink was called out to respond to 171 King Street in Hiram for a report of a female pulling a loaded shot gun at her boyfriend.  Cpl. Hink arrived on scene and contacted the male victim, DAKOTA LEE (34), who stated CINDY LEE (40) is inside the house.  Sgt. Hanson and Cpl. Hink made contact with Cindy in the bedroom.  Upon completion of the investigation, Cpl. Hink arrested Cindy for DV Criminal Threatening and transported to the Oxford County Jail.

             

- On 03/28/2021 Cpl. Hink, Sgt. Hanson, Tr. Cowie, Oxford Cpl. Murray, and Oxford Dep. Ryder responded to 171 King Street in Hiram for a report of Cindy Lee (40) at the residence after bailing from the arrest hours earlier.  Despite Cpl. Hink, Sgt. Hanson, the Jail staff, and the Bail Commissioner advising Cindy she can-not return to the address or have contact with Dakota, she did anyways.  When units arrived on scene, Cpl. Hink was advised that Cindy is on the property somewhere and likely in the woods.  Cpl. Hink cast K9 Berry for a track and Berry located Cindy at a neighbor’s house.  Cpl. Hink arrested Cindy for Felony Bail Violation and transported back to the Oxford County Jail.

- On 03/23/2021 Trooper Pyburn responded to Russell and Sons Towing along with Paris PD, for a report of an intoxicated suicidal subject. Upon arriving on scene, it was determined AUSTIN KIMBALL, had shown up at the shop around 1930 hours, acting belligerent and demanding to know about a vehicle that was towed over a year prior. KIMBALL was detained due to his erratic behavior and issued a disorderly conduct warning. He later became extremely uncooperative and was transported to the Oxford County Jail and charged with Violating Conditions of Release.   

- At approximately 1530 hours on 03/22/2021 Tr. Lemieux was traveling east on River Road in Brunswick. At this time, he noticed a white sedan traveling west on River Road. This vehicle was clearly traveling well over the posted speed limit of 40mph. Tr. Lemieux saw on radar the vehicle traveling 88mph. Tr. Lemieux conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as Jason Purington (19) of Durham. PURINGTON was cited appropriately.

- At approximately 1926 hours on 03/22/2021, Cpl. Russell and Tr. Lemieux were dispatched to the area of I-295 near mile marker 15 for a motor vehicle rollover. It was then reported the vehicle was smoking and bystanders were attempting to pull the driver out of the vehicle. Troopers arrived on scene to find the vehicle on its side in the median. The driver was standing inside of the vehicle. Falmouth Fire arrived on scene. The driver was transported to Maine Medical Center. Inside of the vehicle was an open double IPA beer. Tr. Lemieux spoke with the driver at the hospital who showed signs of impairment. The driver also admitted drinking a couple beers prior to the crash. Investigation is ongoing.  

- On 3/24/2021, Trooper Willard stopped ME CO 3C0346 on Main Street in Lewiston for a vehicle defect.  The operator, Jacob Smith of Lewiston was investigated and subsequently arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol.

- On 3/24/2021, Trooper Willard observed two vehicles pulled over on the ramp along Russell Street off ramp leading to Main Street in Lewiston.  The vehicles had their hazard lights on and were blocking the lane.  Trooper Willard requested the ID’s of the occupants in the broken-down vehicle.  During his queries he found the passenger Amy Lausier had two active arrest warrants (FTA - $2,000 and for VCR).  Once Lausier was in custody she informed Trooper Willard she wanted to provide drug intelligence.  Lausier provided information to Trooper Willard prior to being booked into the jail.  The information was passed along to MDEA, Trooper Wing and Trooper Fillebrown, as they were all familiar with Lausier.

- Tr. Knight stopped a vehicle in Naples on Rt. 11 on 03/24/2021 for multiple MV defects. The operator, Paul Cummings (38), was found to have an out-of-state non-extraditable warrant and an active Maine warrant for FTA. He was also revoked, w/ priors and on 7 sets of bail. Cummings was arrested on the Maine warrant and charged with felony OAR and VCR.

- On 3/27/2021, Trooper Willard stopped ME PC 3934VH for a tint violation.  The operator Gregory Waggoner of Mexico was found to have a suspended driver’s license.  He was issued a VSAC for the offense.  His wife (the passenger) had a valid driver’s license and was allowed to drive the vehicle away.

- On 3/27/2021, Trooper Willard was parked along Route 4 Turner near the Upper Street intersection.  Trooper Willard observed a black two door Volvo travel passed him and turn onto Upper Street.  The registration ME UM 30588 was queried and the registered owner, Jonathan Gordon was found to have a suspended license.  The vehicle was stopped on Poplar Hill Road and Jonathan was confirmed to be driving the vehicle.  He was summonsed for the offense and his passenger who held a valid driver’s license was given permission to operate the vehicle.

- On 03/24/2021 Tr. Watson stopped a vehicle with a headlight out on Rt 26 in Woodstock. The operator, Christopher Waterman (25) and vehicle were both suspended. Waterman was on full search and test bail conditions and could not use or possess alcohol. The passenger, Allen Larson (29) was also on bail. A search of the vehicle yielded multiple alcoholic beverages. The vehicle was towed, and Waterman was charged accordingly for the violations. Sgt. Farley assisted with the investigation.

- On 03/28/2021 at approximately 1700 hours, Tr. Phillips and Lemieux were advised of a stolen vehicle that got onto I-295 from Franklin Street in Portland. Troopers checked the area. It was then determined Scarborough PD was actively chasing the vehicle on I-95. Scarborough PD stopped the chase. A short time later the stolen vehicle crashed at Exit 44 on I-95. The driver and passengers were trapped inside. Exit 44 was shut down. Troopers assisted with the crash. Scarborough Fire used the jaws of life to remove the occupants in the vehicle.

03/23/2021- MSP HG was notified that retired MSP K-9 Champ had died at a Saco Vet Center.  Shorey and Russell were directed to respond to meet with Retired Sgt. Forbes. HG members were able to present Sgt. Forbes and his attending family members a set of US Colors to signify our sincerest appreciation for Champ’s service to the citizens of the State of Maine and the Maine State Police.

 

03/25/2021- MSP HG was notified that Trooper Hanneken was killed in the line of duty in the State of Illinois.  An E.O.W. plate was ordered through MDOT a plaque will be prepared for presentation to Illinois SP on behalf of MSP.

Senior Master Trooper Todd Hanneken was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Illinois 10.

 

03/26/2021- MSP HG was notified that Trooper Gallagher was killed in the line of duty in the State of New York.  An E.O.W. plate was ordered through MDOT and a plaque will be prepared for presentation to the New York SP on behalf of MSP.

Troop B Weekly Report 03/16/2020-03/22/2020

Incident Type: CRIMINAL MISCHIEF/ VCR

Brief Synopsis: On 3/16/2020 Tr. Nadeau responded to Greene for a report of a female out of control and breaking things in the caller’s apartment. Once on scene Tr. Nadeau found Jennifer Morin had barricaded herself in her apartment and was reportedly drunk and high. Tr. Nadeau advised the caller we had no reason to break down the door and to leave Jennifer in the house alone to let her sober up. About 15 minutes later Tr. Nadeau received a second call that Jennifer was now trying to break into her mother’s adjoining duplex. The caller reported that Jennifer was breaking the glass out of the side doors. Once on scene Tr. Nadeau found Jennifer had smashed the glass out of a storm door and main door. Jennifer again barricaded herself back in her apartment. Tr. Phillips and Sgt. Bureau were able to kick the door in to make entry into Jennifer’s house. Jennifer was uncooperative but was taken into custody without incident. Tr. Nadeau summonsed her with VCR and Criminal Mischief.

Brief Synopsis: Trooper Flanagan received a call about a hit and run crash that occurred on I-295 in South Portland.  After responding to the scene, he discovered that the male operator had bail conditions for domestic violence and was not allowed to have contact with the female passenger.  After interviewing both subjects, Tr. Flanagan discovered that the reason the vehicle crashed was because the male operator was assaulting the female passenger.  After observing multiple injuries and getting the female passenger medical treatment, Tr. Flanagan arrested the male operator and transported him to the Cumberland County Jail.  He was charged with Domestic Violence Assault (Class D), Violation of Bail (Class C), Leaving the scene of an accident (Class E) and was held without bail.

Brief Synopsis:            Tr. James received a traffic complainant of a vehicle speeding and slowing in Falmouth on I295.  The driver of the erratic vehicle waved a gun at the complainant when she passed the vehicle. Tr. James conducted a felony stop on Robert Zinger (24) of Sidney in Freeport on I295. A loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson was located in the vehicle. Zinger first stated he wasn’t waving it around and then admitted to having it in his hand because the other vehicle was scaring him. The gun was confiscated, and Zinger was charged with Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon.

Brief Synopsis:            Cpl. Hink noticed a white Ford sedan on the side of the road on Rt.302 with a person leaning over the center console.  Cpl. Hink stopped to check the male to see if he was ok.  During the investigation, Cpl. Hink learned that the male had stopped at a store a few hours prior, bought a pint of vodka, went to his AA meeting in South Portland, drank half the bottle in the parking lot and drove to Naples where he lives from the meeting.  Cpl. Hink arrested the male for operating under the influence and transported him to Bridgton PD for a breath test. He was charged with Operating Under the Influence and Operating After Suspension.

Brief Synopsis:            Tr. James stopped Brad Skeean (24) of Portland on I295 in Freeport for having an expired registration. It was determined the vehicle’s registration was also suspended due to toll violations. Skeean was charged accordingly and the vehicle was towed.

Brief Synopsis:            Det. Royle initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated on I-295 NB at 82 Mph in a posted 55 Mph limit.  The male operator identified as CORMIER, JONATHAN M (37) was found to have a SUSPENDED license. CORMIER was served a USAC for OPERATING AFTER SUSPENSION (OAS).

Brief Synopsis:            Det. Royle initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated on I-295 NB at 77 Mph in a posted 55 Mph limit.  The male operator identified as DE LOS REYES (31) was found to have no valid license. REYES was served a USAC for OPERATING WITHOUT A LICENSE. REYES was also served a VSAC for the speeding violation, no insurance and no inspection.

Brief Synopsis:            Det. Royle initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated on I-295 NB at 82 Mph in a posted 50 Mph limit.  The female operator identified as GALLANT, STEPHANIE D (40) was found to have no valid license. GALLANT was served USAC for EXCEEDING POSTED SPEED LIMIT BY 30+ MPH.  GALLANNT was also served a VSAC for FT produce evidence of insurance.
