Maine State Police investigate Home Invasion and Homicide in Washington County

On Thursday, November 17, 2022 at approximately 9:17 pm the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on Tenan lane in Cherryfield for reports of a home invasion. When Deputies arrived they discovered an adult female with serious injuries, an adult male with minor injuries and an adult male who was deceased. The female was transported to a local hospital. At this time her injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Maine State Police Detectives from Major Crimes Unit North and members of the Evidence Response Team were called to assist in the investigation. The deceased, 36-year-old Matthew Adams of Linneus was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy was performed Friday morning. His death has been ruled a homicide. 

The State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and home invasion. Police do not believe there is an ongoing public safety risk. No other information is available at this time.

MSP investigates two deaths in Penobscot County

On Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at approximately 9:00 am, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at 476 Swetts Pond Road in Orrington. The homeowners, Russell and Lois Swanson, both 89-years-old were found deceased. The husband and wife were discovered by a family member.   
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Response Team were called to help investigate the circumstances of the deaths. That investigation continues at this time.
There is no known risk to the public.
 

Maine State Police Investigate Sanford Death

On Friday, September 2, 2022 at approximately 4:51 pm, the Sanford Police Department responded to the intersection of Bates and Bowdoin Streets as a result of a 911 call. It was reported that a male had been stabbed.  When officers arrived on-scene they learned that the male had been transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. The Sanford Police Department notified the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South who responded to the scene along with the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team.
 
The victim, 32-year-old Dane Brooks of Sanford succumbed to his injuries on the morning of Saturday, September 3, 2022. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted a post-mortem examination on the deceased Sunday morning, September 4, 2022. 
 
Crime scene technicians and analysts from the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team processed the scene. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit - South continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident along with the assistance of the Sanford Police Department.  
 

Woman's death in Lovell was ruled a Homicide

On Thursday, February 24, 2022, shortly after 01:34 a.m., the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home at 82 Pleasant Point Road in Lovell to conduct a welfare check on 41-year-old Jennifer Lingard of Dighton, Massachusetts. Lingard was in Lovell vacationing at her family’s home.  Deputies arrived to find Jennifer deceased inside the home with her two young children who were unharmed. Maine State Police Major Crime Unit Detectives were called to assist in the investigation and worked with witnesses and family members to gather statements and evidence. Maine State Police Detectives worked with the Newport, Rhode Island Police to locate and speak with 33-year-old Sami Daou of Newport, Rhode Island who was vacationing with Lingard and her children in Maine. Lingard and Daou were in a relationship at the time.

On Saturday, February 26, 2022, Daou was found deceased inside his Rhode Island home. The Rhode Island medical examiner determined that Daou died as a result of a drug overdose. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy following Lingard’s death back in February.  After recently receiving toxicology results, Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Liam Funte ruled her death a homicide.  The Maine State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lingards’ death.
 

Maine State Police Make Arrest in Mexico Homicide

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, shortly before 1:00 pm, the Mexico Police Department responded to a home at 32 Intervale Avenue in Mexico after a 911 call was received indicating there had been a shooting in the home.  Officers from Mexico and Rumford PD as well as two ambulances from Med-Care Ambulance arrived to find 27-year-old Nicholas Trynor of Mexico deceased.  Maine State Police Major Crime Unit Detectives were called in to assist in the investigation and worked throughout the night and throughout the day Sunday gathering statements and evidence.

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, 52-year-old Thomas Tellier of Mexico was arrested for the shooting death of his stepson Nicholas Trynor in their Intervale Avenue home in Mexico.  Tellier was arrested in Mexico and was transported to the Oxford County Jail on the charge of Murder. Tellier will be arraigned later this week in Oxford County Superior Court.
 

Mount Vernon Homicide Arrest

The Maine State Police have made an arrest in connection to the death of 14-year-old Brooke McLaughlin of Mt. Vernon. McLaughlin was found deceased in her home on Monday, July 18, 2022, just after 6:00 pm. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined McLaughlin’s death was a homicide. On Saturday morning, July 23, 2022, State Police Detectives arrested a male juvenile from Maine and charged him with murder. The juvenile was taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. McLaughlin and the juvenile did know each other. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding McLaughlin’s death. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police at 207.624.7076.
 
At this time we will not be releasing the juvenile's name or where in Maine he is from. We will also not be releasing any investigative details such as what led police to the juvenile. Additional information will be released through court documents. 
 

A Lewiston Man is Arrested for Murder in Shooting Death of Massachusetts Man

On Sunday, July 17, 2022, shortly after 4:00 pm, Lewiston Police responded to a report of gunshots at 30 Howe Street. Officers arrived on scene and found 20-year-old John Paquin of Worcester, Massachusetts suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paquin was transported to Central Maine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The lower section of Howe Street was blocked off for several hours while Lewiston Police, Maine State Police Detectives and Evidence Technicians processed the scene and conducted interviews.

At approximately 1:30 am on July 18th, 2022 a search warrant was served at a home at 12 Howe Street. That warrant stemmed from the arrest of 28-year-old Mark John Sinclair of Lewiston earlier in the evening. Sinclair who lived at 12 Howe Street held active warrants for DV Terrorizing, Criminal Mischief, and Violation of Bail and was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.

On Monday, July 18, 2022, at approximately 12:20 p.m. the Office of Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Paquin and ruled his death a homicide. This afternoon State Police Detectives charged Sinclair with Murder for the death of Paquin. He is being held without bail. Sinclair is scheduled to be arraigned later this week in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
 

Massachusetts Man Arrested for Murder in Death of Skowhegan Woman

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, at approximately 5:39 am the Skowhegan Police Department received a 911 call from a male reporting an assault at 912 Canaan Road, in Skowhegan. Officers responded to the home to find that male suffering from a head injury. The man, who is from Madison, was staying overnight on the property with his friend 20-year-old Alice Abbott of Skowhegan who lived there with her parents. When officers arrived, they also located Alice Abbott deceased on the property. The male friend was later transported to Reddington-Fairview General hospital in Skowhegan where he was treated and released. Maine State Police Detectives and Evidence Technicians worked throughout the day Saturday conducting interviews and investigating the circumstances of Abbott’s death. At approximately 3:20 pm Saturday State Police Detectives arrested 19-year-old Jason Servil of Massachusetts at the Skowhegan Police Department and charged him with Murder in connection with the death of Abbott. Servil was an acquaintance of Abbott. Servil was transported to the Somerset County jail. The decision to charge Servil was made Saturday afternoon following a discussion between the State Police and the Maine Attorney General’s office. 
Sunday morning July 17, 2022, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.
 

Maine State Police Arrest Woman in Washington County Homicide

On Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m. 42-year-old Rebecca Moores, of Robbinston, was arrested without incident on an outstanding warrant for Murder by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- North. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop on Hardy Point Road in Pembroke, with assistance from the Pleasant Point Police Department. Moores is charged in connection with the death of 53-year-old Paula Johnson who was found deceased in her home at 515 Leighton Point Road in Pembroke on the evening of Wednesday, February 9th, 2022.  The arrest follows an intensive, months-long investigation.  Moores was transported to the Washington County Jail.  
 

Arrest Made in Double Homicide in Auburn

On Friday, July 1, 2022, shortly after 10:00 a.m. 34-year-old David Barnett, or Slim as he was known of Port Clyde, New York was arrested in Rockland, Maryland on a warrant for Murder. The arrest stems from the June 6, 2022 killing of 21-year-old Kelzie Caron and 21-year-old Pierre Langlois of Connecticut at a residence at 49 Fourth St in Auburn. Barnett was taken into custody without incident near an apartment complex in Rockland and additionally holds a nationwide warrant out of New York for probation revocation on a prior robbery charge.

Barnett will be held at the Montgomery County Jail pending extradition proceedings. The Maine State Police and Auburn Police Detectives have been building this case with their interstate partners at the local, state, and federal levels in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Maryland. The investigation into the murders continues and people with information regarding this case are encouraged to contact the Auburn Police Department or the Maine State Police.
