Troop G Weekly Report 09/21/2020 - 09/27/2020

On 09/21/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Jacob Robitaille (34) of Leeds on the ME Turnpike northbound in Sabattus.  He was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence.  His BrAC was over the legal limit.

On 09/22/2020, Cpl. Physic summonsed Colin Harris for Criminal Speed during the morning commute.

On 09/22/2020, Tr. Darcy responded to the theft of a catalytic convertor from a vehicle that took place at the Kennebunk Park & Ride. The investigation is ongoing.

On 09/23/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Nicholas Johnson (22) of Medford, MA on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland.  He was charged with Criminal Speed for traveling more than 30 MPH over the posted work zone speed limit.

On 09/23/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Matthew Byras (44) of Litchfield on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland.  He was charged with Criminal Speed for traveling more than 30 MPH over the posted work zone speed limit.

On 09/23/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Jesse Mead (38) of Portland on the ME Turnpike southbound in Portland.  He was charged with Failing to Register Motor Vehicle Expired More Than 150 Days.

On 9/24/2020, Sgt. Wilkinson, Tr. Welch, and Tr. Davis responded to a crash at MM 49 SB in Portland on the Turnpike. A male operator was traveling southbound in the Portland area when he went off the roadway to the right, causing him to lose control before striking the center median barrier. A second male operator stopped to assist. During this time, a third male operator was traveling southbound and struck the first vehicle, which was disabled in the roadway. The second vehicle that was in the breakdown lane was subsequently struck and two of the vehicles became fully engulfed in flames.  Only minor injuries were reported. Falmouth Fire Department responded. The southbound side of the Turnpike was shut down for approximately an hour and a half. 

On 09/25/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Andrew Savoy (34) of Scarborough on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland.  He was charged with Criminal Speed for traveling more than 30 MPH over the posted work zone speed limit.

On 09/25/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Corey Descheneaux (35) of Cambridge, MA on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland.  He was charged with Criminal Speed for traveling more than 30 MPH over the posted work zone speed limit.

On 09/26/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Justin Kinney (28) of Cincinnati, OH on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland.  He was charged with Criminal Speed for traveling more than 30 MPH over the posted work zone speed limit.

On 09/26/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Leoncio Diaz (34) of Lewiston on the ME Turnpike southbound in Auburn.  He was charged with Operating after Suspension and Possession of a Suspended License.

On 09/26/2020, Cpl. Cote stopped Shannon Brienza (28) of Poland on the ME Turnpike northbound in Auburn.  She was charged with Failure to Register Motor Vehicle Expired More Than 150 Days.

On 09/26/2020, Sgt. Porter stopped a tractor trailer unit from Donnelly Limited at MM 33 SB that was called in as a traffic complaint for erratic operation. The operator, Mityo Tanev Mitev of New Brunswick, was issued a summons for Failure to Maintain Control of MV.

On 09/27/2020, at approximately 0300 hours,  Tr. LiBritz received a report of a wrong-way driver in the area of mile 24 in Kennebunk. It was reported a vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. Sgt. Doughty and Cpl. Physic responded to assist and there were multiple calls on the vehicle. As they approached the area, Sgt. Doughty checked the service plaza southbound and Tr. LiBritz was able to pull over and alert southbound traffic of the wrong way driver. Tr. LiBritz proceeded southbound and came across the vehicle traveling the wrong way near mile 18. Tr. LiBritz was able to get the vehicle safely pulled over into the breakdown lane. Upon further investigation it was determined the operator was impaired. The driver, Matthew MacKay (32) of MA, was arrested for Operating Under the Influence and his BAC was over the legal limit. He was also summonsed for Operating the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway on Turnpike.

On 09/27/2020, Cpl. Duda investigated a speeding vehicle complaint northbound near mile marker 42. The vehicle was described as a black Tahoe with Delaware license plates traveling over 100 MPH. Cpl. Duda located the vehicle at mile marker 46 northbound. Cpl. Duda caught up with the vehicle as it pulled into the breakdown lane and stopped. The operator, Ivan Joseph Meikle (43) of Delaware, stated that he ran out of gas. It was determined that Meikle was intoxicated and traveling with his three juvenile children. Meikle was arrested and transported to a local police department for a breath test. He blew over the legal limit. While at the jail sally port, Meikle attempted to steal the police ID in Cpl. Duda’s vehicle. Meikle was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Theft.

Recently, Tr. Grenier from Troop C rode with Tr. Darcy for a shift to learn criminal interdiction techniques.

Cpl. Physic joined the Interstate Commission of Juveniles as the law enforcement representative for the state.
