State Police say a body, believed to be a woman, was recovered from property in the Town of Norway today. Detectives and Evidence Technicians located the remains buried in the backyard at 239 Harrison Road, as they were conducting a search. The remains have been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta where an autopsy will begin Wednesday. Investigators say the woman, believed to be in her 80s, likely died in the past 12 to 18 months and she may have lived in a mobile home on the property.
Investigators will now look to the medical examiner’s office for a positive identification, along with cause of her death.
State Police were assisted in the search and recovery by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Norway Police, the Maine Department of Transportation, and the medical examiner’s office.
